SUMMARY

The main focuses of the estimator role are creating complete and accurate cost estimates, creating proposals, following up and closing the sale of the proposals, and completing ongoing project change orders as directed by the Project Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Develop complete and accurate estimates / take-offs in the company’s ERP software, INNERGY, of material costs, labor hours and costs, sub-contractors, and Non-Plant Processed (NPP) work, based on project documents and communications with the customer. 
  • Work with Management to determine project pricing from estimated costs and current contribution margin goals based on project schedule and capacity needs.   
  • Collect all pertinent documentation, including all drawings, project specifications, email communication, and project schedules to gain a deep understanding of the project requirements 
  • Ensuring all pertinent documentation is saved and tagged within opportunity in INNERGY 
  • Obtain multiple quotes for NPP and/or subcontractor work then selecting the most suitable vendor for the bid based on value for that project (ex: cost vs complexity) and make recommendations to PM on which vendors to use if project is awarded
  • Confirm, as best as possible, material availability and potential cost escalations 
  • Creating proposals that detail the scope of work, exclusions, necessary material variations or concerns, necessary cost allowances, and key company time frames
  • Regularly follow up on submitted bids to close the sale
  • Building and manage relationships with customers and vendors 
  • Be aware of competitive trends to determine price competitiveness and market fit
  • Complete Schedule of Values for activated projects in a strategic manner to aide cash flow
  • Complete all change order requests for ongoing projects per the Project Manager
  • Maintain a regular sense of current project performance and discuss with PM
  • Review and analyze closed project performance to determine accuracy of estimates compared to actual costs.  This is in addition to any company led post-mortems
  • Follow all standards set by the organization and other duties / responsibilities as assigned based on the needs of the company


Key Results

  • Completing and submitting bids that meet or exceed company goals of bid revenue amounts per estimator per time frame (2022 – $27mm per estimator per year)
  • Activate won opportunities that meet or exceed company goals of activated revenue amounts per estimator per time frame (2022 - $4mm per estimator per year)
  • The actual contribution margin (ACM) of projects at completion meets or exceeds company goal of ACM per estimator per time frame ($1m per estimator per year)
  • Internal customers receive complete and accurate information in a consistent manner
  • Relationships are built with key individuals / decision makers at different customer companies
  • All goals based on individual performance are based on four estimators.  Department performance and market conditions will also be considered for any review
